I created this piece with the intention of evoking distress and stress from the audience. I wanted to replicate the feeling that I get when I'm around too many people with too much noise and I get overstimulated. When this happens, I have to sit outside and take a breath before I'm able to be around everyone again. This has been happening more and ore as my anxiety has been getting worse, and when I have points of extreme anxiousness I'm able to hear my heartbeat loudly which is also something I wanted to incorporate.
I ended up starting off this piece in a calm state with nature noises such as birds chirping, wind chimes, and a creek flowing with the wind. Then I started adding more man-made sounds like coughing and talking with ticking in the background, reminiscent of a heartbeat. As the ticking continues more and more sounds of people talking, eating, writing, etc. get added until the sounds grow louder and more distorted and then cut off. The ticking continues and then footsteps are heard along with some keys. This was meant to represent the point at which the main character leaves their surroundings, but someone comes to check on them, or they go back (up to interpretation).
I oscillated the sounds between the speakers on Audition to make the viewer feel more emerged within the piece, but unfortunately, this didn't translate to Soundcloud. This was unfortunate because a couple of parts were contingent on this effect, and without it, I feel that my piece fell short of delivering what I wanted.
