About the Artist
My name is Madeleine Kellick and I am a senior studying business, emphasizing in operations management and corporate ethics and social responsibility. I'm originally from Minnesota but I grew up snowboarding in Steamboat Springs, and I moved to Colorado to be closer to the mountains. I have been involved with the CU Snowboarding Team for the past 4 years and I find that I am happiest when I'm on the mountain.
I first became entranced by the art world when I came across several of Takashi Murakami's exhibitions across the world. I immediately took an interest in Modern Art and I have been inspired by artists like Louise Bourgeois to create my most recent pieces. I primarily work in the 3D art space to make sculptures that draw inspiration from my life, relationships, and the world that surrounds me. You'll find that most of my pieces include parts of the human body because I'm fascinated with the mobility and expressions that come from our anatomy. I experiment with photography as well, again using humans as my subjects of choice.
To me, art is an escape from the binary thinking that I am exposed to within my studies. It allows me to think creatively and approach my life with a unique lens. While I will most likely end up working a corporate job after graduation, being an artist is an integral part of my life and I plan on continuing my practices independently if I'm not able to use my creativity within my job.
